Milan, Italy - 15/9/2026

  • The 7 MW photovoltaic facility is the second asset of VERBUND Green Power Italia entering into operation in the country.

  • Povoletto solar PV plant is also the first of several projects scheduled for completion in Italy in the next 6 months, and the first VERBUND project commissioned under the FER-X support scheme.

VERBUND Green Power Italia, subsidiary of VERBUND, Austria's leading energy company and one of Europe's largest producers of clean energy, announces the commissioning of its solar PV plant in Povoletto, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. With an installed capacity of 7 MW, the facility represents a new milestone in the company’s expansion strategy in Italy and reinforces the commitment of VERBUND to accelerating the energy transition in the country.

As part of VERBUND Green Power Italia’s commitment to delivering tangible benefits to the local community, the company has signed a compensation measure agreement with the municipality to support initiatives that create lasting value for residents. In addition, to further strengthen the project’s positive impact in the area, the company has committed to a series of community-focused measures developed in close coordination with local stakeholders, including, among other actions, the installation of a 15 kWh battery storage system at the Parish Youth Center.

The project also marks a significant achievement as the first asset commissioned by VERBUND under Italy’s FER-X Contract for Difference (CfD) auction scheme, successfully awarded in 2025.

“The commissioning of the Povoletto solar PV plant is an important milestone in our development strategy in Italy, reflecting our long-term commitment to the market. Italy is a key country for our growth in Europe, and we are proud to be contributing to its energy transition by providing high-quality renewable energy infrastructure. This project is part of a broader pipeline that will see us continue to invest in, develop and operate assets across the country in the years ahead.”

Francesco Spagnolo Managing Director of VERBUND Green Power Italia

This is the first of three renewable energy projects that VERBUND Green Power Italia plans to bring online in Italy in the next six months, further strengthening the Group’s position in one of Europe’s most dynamic renewable energy markets.

Construction works for Povoletto solar PV plant were carried out by local EPC contractor PVK, which also supported VERBUND as development partner for the permitting phase.

As VERBUND continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Italy, the company remains focused on delivering high-quality projects that create long-term value for local communities, strengthen energy security through domestically produced clean electricity and contribute to the broader transition toward a sustainable energy future.

Italy is a highly attractive market for renewable energy development thanks to strong electricity demand, supportive regulatory frameworks, and favorable market fundamentals. Against this backdrop, VERBUND is actively expanding its development activities and building a diversified project pipeline. The company expects to surpass 100 MW of installed renewable energy capacity in Italy by 2027.
