VERBUND: Who we are

The VERBUND Group is Austria's leading energy company and one of Europe's largest producers of renewable energy. Overall, 98% of the energy the company generates comes from renewable and environmentally friendly sources.

Historically, VERBUND has predominantly relied on hydropower for energy generation. Since its inception in the 1940s, VERBUND has positioned itself as a leading hydro and clean energy group in Europe, operating more than 8.4 GW of hydro installations across the continent, primarily in Austria and Germany.

In recent years, VERBUND has embarked on a strategy for energy diversification and international expansion. The company aims to generate 25% of its total output from wind and solar power by 2030 and currently operates over 1 GW of renewable installations across Austria, Germany, Spain, Albania, Romania, and Italy.

Italy plays a central role in VERBUND’s growth initiatives, offering abundant natural resources, a favorable climate, and a strong commitment to ambitious sustainability goals. With increasing demand for clean energy, Italy provides significant opportunities for advancing the energy transition through wind and solar projects.

Mission V: Our Path to a Sustainable Future

At VERBUND, we believe that the European energy transition demands urgent investments in green energy, particularly in wind, solar photovoltaic, and green hydrogen. In line with our commitment to decarbonization and sustainability, we launched 'Mission V,' a strategic initiative to support Europe’s energy transition through three key pillars:

Strengthening the integrated national energy market in Austria and Germany,
Establishing VERBUND as a market leader in green hydrogen across Europe, and
Accelerating the large-scale deployment of renewable energy sources, including hydro, wind, and solar PV throughout the continent.

Together, these pillars will guide our efforts in building a sustainable and resilient energy future for generations to come.
